Ted Thompson awarded for Career Achievement

Ted  Thompson MEq, LP was the 2015 Recipient of the award for Outstanding Career Achievement in Black Psychology given each year during Black History month by the Diversity Committee of the Minnesota Psychological Association.  The award was initiated when former MnABPsi President, Dr. Bravada Garrett-Akinsanya, was also president of MPA. The annual award presentation follows a seminar on issues of mental health in the Black Community that is either presented or arranged by the previous years award recipient.

In this years seminar, “Closing Gaps and Opening Doors for Children”,  former recipient Dr. Iris Cornelius and a panel of presenters reported on how their work to bring school based mental health services to students in an economically challenged section of St. Paul that is heavily Black, Hispanic and Hmong has led to a surge in parent involvement and a transformation of the Hazel Park Preparatory Academy from an underperforming school to one that is about to become recognized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
